The scientific activity of the Department of Pharmacology throughout its history has been very multidirected. In the chronological aspect, the following directions of research and development of new drugs can be highlighted:
1924-1970 – cardiotonic, hypotensive;
1971-1990 – anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, analgesic, choleretic, hepatoprotective, anticonvulsant;
1991-1999 – anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, hepatoprotective, tocolytic, cardioprotective, anti-atherosclerotic;
2000-2004 – anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, hepatoprotective, tocolytic, cardioprotective, cardiotonic, antiatherosclerotic, antiulcer, vulvoprotective, prostatoprotective, reparative, stress-protective, antidiabetic;
2005-2010 antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, reparative, wound healing, tocolytic, antiulcer, prostatoprotective, gravidoprotective, fetoprotective, cardioprotective, vulvoprotective, anxiolytic, antiamnestic, immunotropic, angioprotective, hypouricemic, antialcoholic, cerebroprotective, frigoprotective, chondroprotective, hypolipidemic, antioxidant, anticonvulsant;
Since 2011 – anti-inflammatory, reparative, wound-healing, antiulcer, hypouricemic, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, chondroprotective, anticonvulsant, gravidoprotective, prostatoprotective, psychotropic (sedative, anxiolytic, nootropic, stress-protective, anticonvulsant action), frigoprotective, immunotropic, cerebroprotective, antidiabetics; drugs affecting the water-salt metabolism. The influence of the dietary salt composition on the efficacy of drugs of different groups is also studied.
Recently, studies on the chronopharmacology of anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, hepatoprotective agents have been carried out.
Thus, the staff of the Department of Pharmacology preserves for the last 90 years the best traditions laid down by its founder, Academician A.I. Cherkes, and successfully develops them, working for the benefit of pharmacy and medicine.
During the last year, the results of the research conducted by the staff of the department enabled publishing of 59 articles (21 articles in publications indexed in international databases, including foreign ones, 8 articles in other foreign professional journals, 30 articles in Ukrainian professional journals), 84 thesis in the domestic conference materials and 15 – in foreign ones.
The members of the department took part in 44 scientific and practical events of various levels. During the last year, 5 patents of Ukraine were received. 3 official newsletters of Ukrmedpatentinform were published. The number of scientific publications in NUPh electronic archive is 633.
Postgraduate training is carried out (during the last year 3 dissertations were defended and diplomas received, 2 dissertations were submitted to the Specialized Scientific Council, two postgraduate students continue their studies) and two doctoral students, as well as one applicant of the doctoral degree are working. 19 students are the members of the student scientific society actively participating in scientific activities.
The department continues cooperation with the University of Ain Shams (Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt), the pharmaceutical faculty of Ben-Gurion University (Beer-Sheva, Israel).
Currently, the department has 5 doctors and 13 candidates of medical, pharmaceutical and biological sciences. 100% of teachers have a scientific degree. Actively functioning scientific student society, graduate school and doctoral studies. Employees of the department and under their leadership defended about 20 doctoral and more than 50 Ph.D. theses; 12 theses are performed by citizens of Ukraine from other states.
The following disciplines are taught at the department: “Pharmacology”, “Pharmacology of biotechnological preparations”, “Pharmacology and medical prescription”, “Side effect of drugs” and “Basics of rational drug use”.
Currently, the staff of the department includes 7 doctors and 11 candidates of medical, pharmaceutical and biological sciences. 100% of the staff mambers have a scientific degree. The scientific research within graduate, post-graduate and doctoral studies is being actively conducted. Staff members have completed or have supervised more than 20 doctoral and more than 50 Ph.D. theses; and theses preparation by citizens of Ukraine as well as the other countries is still on-going. The following disciplines are being taught at the department: “Pharmacology,” “Pharmacology of biotechnological preparations,” “Pharmacology and medical prescription,” “Side effects of drugs” and “Basics of rational drug use.”
During the last academic year, the results of the research conducted by the staff of the department enabled publishing of 50 articles (25 articles in foreign journals, including 6 articles indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, 28 articles in Ukrainian professional journals), 52 theses in the domestic conferences and 11 – in the foreign conferences.
The total sum for the H-index values of the staff: 20.
The total sum for the documents indexed in Scopus: 126.
The total sum for the citations in Scopus: 101.
The staff members took part in 42 scientific and practical sessions at various levels, including two reports presentations abroad and ten – in Ukraine. During the last academic year, 5 patents of Ukraine were received as well as 3 information letters. The number of scientific publications in the electronic archive of NUPh is 895.
The training of the specialists of the highest qualification is being actively conducte (during the last academic year, a doctoral dissertation has been defended, two diplomas of candidates of science have been received, 4 post-graduate students are being trained, two doctoral dissertations have been completed and are being prepared for defense). The student scientific society of the department unites 24 higher education aspirants actively involved in scientific activity.
